A Time To Be Born… Rosetta was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas as Minnie Sue Rosetta Biggs. She was born to Rufus and Minnie Sue Biggs. She was the eldest of ten children. Rosetta’s mother passed when she was at the tender age of two years old. Rosetta has also lived in Oklahoma, Arizona, Montana, and California. In 1966 she moved eight of her children to Richmond, California to ensure they
would have a better life. Her two eldest children later joined them.
Being the eldest, Rosetta was not able to attend school as she wished. She learned to read by reading the Bible to her Grandfather “PA”. She did not graduate from school, but later went on to get her GED and subsequently she earned her Licensed Vocational Nurses License.
Rosetta has never been a stranger to hard work. She worked in the beet fields, picked cotton, and did day work in Montana. After moving to California, and obtaining her LVN Nursing License, she worked as a Nurse for over 50 years. She worked at Shields & Terrell Nursing Home in Richmond, California for over 25 years and 5th Ave Nursing Center in San Rafael, California for
over 15 years.
During her last 10 years of nursing, she did Private Duty Nursing and cared for two very special young people, Ashley & Daniel. Rosetta was a true example to her children, instilling in them the importance of education, hard work and never expecting a handout.
Living Holy was instilled in her at a very young age by her Grandfather “PA.” Mother Williams was saved, sanctified, and filled with the precious Holy Ghost. She raised her children in the fear and admonition of God. She taught them by
precept and example the importance of trusting God. She never sent them to church, but always took them. She was never a bench member but was always active in the ministry and believed that when you blessed the man God, that God would take care of you. She served faithfully at the Wayman Chapel AME Church in Billings, Montana under Rev. R. Freeman, Center Street MBC, under Rev J.
Nervis, and New Gethsemane COGIC under Rev. A. Levias. Even though she was never an official member of McGlothen Temple COGIC, she loved and supported them in all their endeavors. She believed in supporting her children. She is well known for her knowledge of the Word of God and always helping the Preachers to Preach.
Rosetta loved to travel. She was blessed to travel to the Holy Lands, see the Tomb of Jesus and be baptized in the Jordan River. She attended the yearly Biggs/McClain Family Reunion. She earned the prestigious award of Perfect Attendance for the first 25 years of the Reunion. At the last Family Reunion in Arizona, she was acknowledged as the Oldest Living Member and the Matriarch of the Family.
Rosetta is lovingly known as “Lady Rose”, Aunt WooWoo and Aunt Roro. Her sweet smelling demeanor was evident that her life was blessed by God, because she loved everyone. She loved her family. She raised her ten children virtually on her own. She always said she did not know how to be a Mother, but she raised her children the way she imagined her mother to be. She was the glue that held her family together. Many of her children’s friends became her children and many of them called her Moma.
Rosetta also loved history and was the historian of the family. Anything you needed to know just ask her.
Rosetta was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus, and Minnie Sue; Grand Parents William Cornelius, Rosetta, Henry and Ollie; brothers, Rufus, Carey & William; Sister Beatrice; Sons, Nathaniel and Andrew; Son in law Fred; Daughter in law Sandra; and seven Grandchildren Melinda, Jacinda, Ericka, Anthony (Tony), James Jr, Khalil and Dwayne.
On October 4, 2021, at 7:45am Rosetta peacefully and quietly entered into her eternal rest. This earthly angel gained her heavenly wings. She now rests in the arms of her loving and faithful Savior. She has received her crown.
Mother Rosetta Williams will be tremendously missed by all those who were blessed to be in her presence. Her family and loved ones will forever cherish her sweet memories and never forget her most radiant smile. She leaves to remember and cherish her precious memories, three Sons James, Gregory and Clarence; five daughters Rujena, Mattie, Brenda, Patricia and one other daughter; 1 brother Floyd of Oklahoma; 4 sisters Ruth of Montana, Mary Ann of Oklahoma, Louise of North Carolina and Rececca of Arkansas; 40 grandchildren; 105 great grandchildren; 79 great great grandchildren.
